Add Github's emoji set
This set is rapidly becoming the "standard" for emoji. HipChat should support these by default.
Can you please add a fist bump emoji?
Use unicode emoticons and render those too instead of the silly and blurry looking default ones. Unicode ones do NOT have to be rendered on modern OS'es becasue they can do it by themselves. Only on OS'es that don't have support for colored font glyphs.
It seems both low-hanging fruit, and trivial cross-compatibility, to support the full spectrum of GitHub heart emoji.
Please add the emoji from: http://www.emoji-cheat-sheet.com/
It's quite jarring to be able to use them on Github but not in our favorite chat client.
Good suggestion. We’re hoping to add these emoji characters at some point

I think that the most important thing is to support the :emote: syntax than anything else... We are already used to use that syntax everywhere...

This is in the top 10 most voted suggestions. Although this related issue is arguably less useful it is planned and this one isn't: https://help.hipchat.com/forums/138883-suggestions-ideas/suggestions/2974498-ability-to-play-custom-sound-effects
so whilst you've been ignoring this suggestion for 2 years, you've managed to add auto-complete for your current-crappy emoji set? bien joue.

so a few thousand votes and sitting around for almost 2 years with no traction? that's kinda lamesauce.
I would also suggest, to have a choice not to see the "custom" pictures that in most cases are just distracting and are funny only one time.
Why not add a black heart please?

I love that set. Please add it NOW!!!
I concur with Arne. Get off your butts and add these. A request from a year ago and still considering it? Come on!

Some emoticons have been implemented, unfortunately they also FUBAR any attempts to paste code, since code highlighting/sand-boxing have not been implemented.
...this is under consideration for one year and two weeks now! please, stop considering and do it! thank you!

While you're at it...wanna add the sounds too? Our company really enjoyed using those in Campfire.

Another vote for this! We use these emojis in Trello all the time.

Please add support for this! In OS X emoticons get converted to emojis and then my coworkers on Windows just see empty boxes.
-1 Images and creative use of ascii are plenty of "fun", and won't end up with corrupted source code
